Creative writing classes
I’m intrigued. Why go to one? The person who teaches the class has obviously failed as a creative writer, or they wouldn’t need a job teaching a creative writing class.
I’d have to disagree. The creative writing classes I took in college were mostly taught by published authors and the MFA program was ran by an author who won the Booker Prize twice. However, “why go to one” is a valid question. Will it improve your writing to Pulitzer standards? Probably not. Personally, I used them more as a venue to get a lot of peer review/criticism and a means to give myself actual deadlines.

Obviously, every X teacher is really a failed X. No one who knows anything about X-ing would ever teach others about X. Too cool 4 school, etc.

Not really a valid premise. There are some terrific writers who teach. Lorrie Moore, for example.
